Abstract

Along with the development of information and communication technologies, the need for gadgets in daily life is also increasing. The survey states that the average time spent using gadgets and internet by Indonesian citizens is 7 hours and 42 minutes. Long-term use of the gadgets can lead to several problems, one of them is the development of dry eye syndrome. Complaints about dry eye syndrome are one of the most common eye health problems. A 2017 study in Indonesia reported that the number of dry eye syndrome patients in that year reached 30.6% of the total population. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the duration of gadget usage has correlation with the appearance of dry eye syndrome in Optik Kuda Mas employees. Based on the OSDI questionnaire that was found and integrated with the gadget usage duration questionnaire, the severity of dry eye syndrome was found, namely normal 1 person (4.16%), mild 2 people (8.30%), moderate 0 people (0%), followed by severe degree 21 people (87.5%). There is a significant relationship between the duration of using gadgets in Optik Kuda Mas workers and the severity of dry eye syndrome.
